The new golden visa. Let's talk about it. There is a new active investor visa that's available for the first time ever in New Zealand, and I just wanted to write a blog about this because, talking with other investors and talking with immigration, it's become clear that this has never happened before. We don't know how long it's going to last. There is going to be a new government in 2026, and they could just do away with it. Who knows? Or it could be around for 10 years—like nobody knows. But if you are considering, um, you know, getting permanent residency in New Zealand through this visa, you should now. I don't think that you should delay if you can.
So basically, you have to invest either 5 million or 10 million New Zealand dollars, which is much less in US dollars. And what's cool, what I'm hearing from clients and from, um, other people that have gotten this, is that the things that you can invest in are really awesome. A lot of charities, a lot of nonprofits that you, you know, feel really good about. It's not like you have to just buy into the businesses that they're, you know, asking you to do.
If you do the $10 million visa, you can invest in, real estate—and nothing that you can use for personal use—but, for, you know, it's just there's a lot of really kind of cool options, and people are really loving it. Also, another benefit is that you only have to be in the country a total of 21 days. That's basically one week a year for three years, and then you get permanent residency. But what you get right away is a resident visa, so you can go and live there if you want.
