This is for anyone considering studying abroad: why you might consider choosing Poland as your study destination in 2025. If you know me from way back, you will know that I have been promoting Poland in a very positive way, encouraging people on how to integrate and how to live their life in Poland.
But if you are considering studying in Poland, there are some drawbacks. Even though Poland is considered one of the best countries in Europe, and also has good universities—some of the best universities in Europe—and their tuition fee is very low compared to other European countries, if you want to come to Poland to study in 2025, you have to consider some factors. So, let's dive into the video. Don't run, let's dive into the chapter.
First, let's talk about the difficulties in obtaining a visa appointment. As I told you guys earlier, getting school documents is not a problem, or getting a working contract is not a problem. The problem now is how to secure a visa appointment. I have been hearing a lot of complaints because when you check my emails or my DMs, they are full of complaints. A lot of people are complaining because they have their documents and they can't submit them at the embassy because there's no date available. Some have been waiting at home for almost one year, two years, waiting for the opportunity to go and submit their documents. They have been delayed in securing an appointment date—you have to wait like one year or two years before you get an appointment to submit your documents. This can throw off your whole study plan.
Yeah, it's very serious. I know some people who told me that they used a back door to get an appointment at the Polish embassy in Nigeria. If you are from West Africa, it's very difficult. Other Eastern Africans also have the same similar problem. I would advise you to better find different ways. There are a lot of European countries, so you can find different European countries to go to. Poland is not the only European country to come to because if you start, you are going to study in between, and you will not know what to do—you'll be frustrated and depressed. So, don't come to Poland to study now.
Now let's talk about the new rules of nostrification. The good thing is that if you have your master's degree, you don't have to go through this process. If you don't have a bachelor’s degree, then you have to go through this nostrification process if you are coming to do your BSc. But for MSc, you don't have to nostrify your documents.
If you ask me, “ what is the meaning of nostrification?” Nostrification is the process of recognizing foreign diplomas and certificates. This process makes the whole studying journey very complicated and time-consuming. It requires more documentation and longer processing time because you have to send your documents to Poland for them to nostrify them. That makes the whole process very complicated. So why even stress yourself to come to Poland to study? You can find other European countries to go to or better stay in your country because coming to Poland is very stressful now, in 2025, as I am speaking to you right now.
Now, about the work permit: there are new rules said to happen in 2025. Before, if you were a foreign student, you didn't need any permit to work in Poland—you could work freely. But now, for international students who come here to study, there are new rules requiring you to acquire a work permit in order to work in Poland. This adds a lot of delays and bureaucracy. If you want to read about this, I'll put a link in the description—just go and read, understand what you are embarking on. Coming to Poland now is very stressful and very difficult. This is not like during our time. During our time, we had our own issues and problems, but now the problem has increased. So, when you are planning to come to Poland, you have to think about this.
Just try to consider a different country. Don't plan to come to Poland because, yes, you'll be stressed out. Find other alternatives.
Next is the refusal rate. The refusal rate has increased. More and more students are finding their visa applications rejected, which can be disheartening and a major setback. You can read about this high refusal rate in my video description.
Lastly, it's about the prolonged waiting time for your residence permit. After going through all this process—acquiring your visa to come to study in Poland—there is still the residence permit. It can take a year, seven months, or even two years to get your permit. The funny thing is that during this process, you cannot leave Poland. You have to stay in Poland because if you go back to your home country, you have to apply for a new visa to come back. So, you are stuck in Poland for the whole duration of waiting for your residence permit.
It is very stressful. Even me, as I'm talking to you, I am working and everything, but I am still waiting for my residence permit. Now it’s almost one year. Even after going through all this process to get your visa and everything, there will be other challenges. So, it's better for you to find other European countries. If you want to study, find other alternatives—other universities, other countries. It's very disheartening because the waiting period is very long and unpleasant.
So, whilst Poland has many great universities and opportunities, these new challenges might make it less attractive for international students. Make sure you weigh these factors very carefully before you make plans to study in Poland.
