Let's talk about the 10 most popular countries for tourism that also offer digital Nomad visas for remote workers and freelancers in 2025. Digital nomads are individuals who work for an employer or for themselves remotely, identify as self-employed or freelancers, and all they need is their internet to keep them connected to jobs, employers, co-workers, and clients. Working remotely in a different country has become especially popular for freelancers or self-employed individuals since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020.
The first one is access to health care in the host country. If your health insurance covers that area, you're most likely going to need to get international health insurance coverage from the US. You can check out my other video about the digital Nomad visas linked in the description below. Second is the availability of international cell phone usage with your cell phone company, but it's probably just cheaper to get a cell phone in the host country. Another important factor is the internet speed and coverage in the host country. The last requirement you should know is the length of the digital Nomad visa the host country offers you. Is it going to be a six-month visa or a one-year visa with the possibility of extending for another year, or something else? Some countries don't even charge you taxes for the income you make from outside of the host country. They just want you to stay in that country to contribute to their economic growth.
Anyway, let's get right into it. Spain launched a digital Nomad visa program in 2023 that allows remote workers and freelancers to live in Spain if they meet the minimum income requirement of 28,000 euros per year. The Spanish government passed the digital Nomad program as a part of the startups act to attract entrepreneurs to boost their tech industry. Digital nomads in Spain will enjoy reduced income tax from 24% to 15% for up to four years if they're earning under 600,000 euros per year. Most digital nomads choose to live outside of city limits or in smaller regional towns for a lower cost of living. Spain is a popular destination for its culture, food, and stunning scenery, and you can apply for the digital Nomad visa for a year with the possibility of extending it for another year, up to four years.

South Africa launched a digital Nomad visa program in 2022 that allows remote workers and freelancers to live in South Africa for more than 90 days, with a maximum of one year. South Africa's tourism economy got hit hard during the pandemic and the travel restrictions. Cape Town, also known as the Mother City, is known to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with stunning nature, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant culture. You'll also be able to apply for a digital Nomad visa extension as long as you can provide proof of monthly income of $3,000 per month. You can apply for either a single or multi-entry visa at the local South African embassy or consulate. You’ll need to provide proof of health insurance and proof of self-employment or working for an employer outside South Africa.

New Zealand is known to be one of the most unique and beautiful destinations in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, with two main land masses and over 700 small islands. New Zealand offers over 100 different types of visas that allow people to stay in the country for more than 90 days. The country has famous wine regions, rugby, and Middle Earth, if you're a fan of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. As a remote worker or freelancer, it's probably best to apply for the working holiday visa that allows you to travel and work in New Zealand for up to 12 months, but it’s going to depend on the type of work you do. I suggest you visit the New Zealand consulate to explore the best options for you. The minimum income requirement will depend on the type of visa you choose, but you will need to provide proof of a return plane ticket when you acquire the working visa.

Panama is a popular destination in Central America for its warm climate, vibrant cities, and high standard of living. The business district in downtown Panama is famous for its vibrant nightlife and unique restaurants. Panama's coastlines offer countless beaches that are known to be one of the best surfing destinations. You can either go to Panama's Caribbean coast or the Pacific coastline to enjoy your stay. Panama's digital Nomad visa allows freelancers and remote workers to stay in Panama for between six months and two years, with the ability to file for an extension. You need to provide proof of monthly income of $3,000 a month and show proof that you're self-employed or employed by a company outside Panama. However, you have to apply for a digital Nomad visa with an immigration lawyer in Panama to review and file your application.

Italy is a popular destination with a long Mediterranean coastline, full of history and culture, and is considered a fashion capital of Europe. The popular cities in Italy are way too long to list, but you should check out Rome, Venice, Florence, and Lake Como, where Hollywood films some of their scenes for James Bond movies. Foreigners living in Italy suggest that you visit as many cities and towns as possible in Italy before getting a working visa. Italy recently launched a digital Nomad visa program in 2022 that allows highly skilled remote workers and freelancers to stay in Italy for up to one year. Since the digital Nomad visa program falls under article 27 of the Consolidated Immigration Act, you might need to meet specific work and education requirements to apply for the visa. It doesn't state how much you need to make every year, but it does require you to have sufficient funds throughout your stay.

The Netherlands is famous for cheese, windmills, cycling routes, and other things I can't mention on social media. Amsterdam is not the only popular destination for digital nomads. Many people choose to live outside the city limit or in other cities or towns to enjoy a lower cost of living. Buying a car can be expensive, so most people use the public transportation system to get around the city. Remote workers and freelancers are required to pay taxes and follow any local laws and regulations. The Netherlands does not offer a digital Nomad visa, but you can apply for a residence permit or the MVV visa for longer than 90 days at the local embassy or consulate in your home country. Both EU and non-EU citizens will need to take a civic integration exam and have lived and worked in a country for five years before they can gain permanent residency.

Turkey has become an iconic destination for digital nomads for its historical sites, amazing food, culture, and friendly locals. I truly enjoy their coffee and tea when I visited Turkey many years ago. Many EU and non-EU digital nomads choose to stay in Istanbul or Ankara for three months at a time, with the possibility of extending indefinitely. Keep in mind that you are required to have travel insurance throughout your stay in Turkey. You can apply for the Turkish residence permit as long as you can show proof of sufficient income of $550 each month, or a minimum balance of $550 in your bank account each month you spend in Turkey. You have to apply for the residence permit while you're visiting Turkey on a tourist visa. The process to get a permit may take longer than expected, so you may have to exit the country and then re-enter once you have your residence permit approved by the Turkish government.

Brazil was the first country in South America to launch a digital Nomad visa in 2022 for remote workers and freelancers working for companies outside of Brazil. Sao Paulo, in Southeastern Brazil, continues to be the most popular destination for digital nomads, where it's a major hub for financial, industrial, and other economic activities. In order to get your digital Nomad visa, you'll need to provide proof of employment or self-employment for a foreign company outside of Brazil and a monthly income of at least $1,500, or have $18,500 available in your bank account at the time of your application. You will need to submit your bank statements, health insurance coverage, and other visa documents at the Brazilian embassy or consulate in your home country.

Norway has a comprehensive digital Nomad visa program for remote workers and freelancers working for a company outside of Norway for up to two years. Oslo is a thriving business center and a hub for trade, banking, and shipping. It is famous for its seafood, nightclubs, and other entertainment. Keep in mind that the cost of living in Oslo is ranked among the top 10 most expensive cities in the world, and expect housing to be the biggest expense. In order to qualify for the independent contractor visa, you need to show proof that your business or employer was established outside of Norway, proof of annual income of $38,000, and have Norwegian employees working for your business. You need to have a bachelor's degree, at least six years of work experience in your profession, and a registered business address in Norway to get the visa.

The Bahamas offers a digital Nomad visa program for remote workers and freelancers working for an employer outside of the Bahamas. You can stay in the Bahamas for a year, with the possibility of extending for two more years. There's no minimum income requirement, and you get to enjoy tax benefits like no income taxes or capital gains tax. Keep in mind that the Bahamas is considered one of the most expensive countries in the world due to large tourism and imported goods. To qualify for the Bahamas extended access travel stay, you'll need to show proof of self-employment or an employer established outside the Bahamas. Life in the Bahamas comes with a higher price tag, but you're paying for 300 days of sunshine and excellent weather throughout the year, as well as countless entertainment and outdoor activities to do on the island country. I took my family to the Bahamas on the Disney cruise, and we absolutely had a blast there, swimming with the dolphins. I personally want to get a digital Nomad visa and just move to the Bahamas for a year one day.
